October 2, 2014 Meeting Recap

Thanks to everyone who came out for the meeting at Champps in Lombard on October 2nd. Attendance was a packed house for this event, which made it a very enjoyable evening for all the members

There was a presentation given by John Thompson of Thompson Elevator Inspection Service from Mount Prospect Illinois.

The topic was on the 2015 Elevator inspection updates. John’s insight on the new inspection updates, and the programs knowledge, were appreciated by all the members in attendance. Everyone left this meeting with a clearer understanding of how Thompson inspection program is progressing.

From Thompson Elevator Inspection Service – Attached is the Upgrade guideline as well as the “Upgrade Unit Info Sheet” to be submitted for permit/plan review by Thompson Elevator – this captures the “DNA” of the elevator for processing.  It will accompany the other plan review docs which are 1. Scope of Work on Installer’s Letterhead 2. Spec/Cutsheets of the equipment described in scope of work 3. Drawings Layouts (this is needed for the pit ladders) 4. any additional docs that “tell the story” of the installation.  Submittal will be 3 sets all marked FINAL.  Note: permits are required for all the upgrade work no matter when the work is started.  Note 2: for non-Thompson jurisdiction, please check with the appropriate folks for requirements on plan submittal.

August 2014-2015 Upgrade Letter to Elev Co-to OSFM for review approval-Rev 4,pdf –  10/7/2014

The Code committee report came from James Herrity and John Rearick, two A17 Committee members who were in town this week for a ASME meeting. It was very nice to hear the positive outlook from the past couple months on the positive work that’s been completed with A17.1, A17.2 and A17.3.

November’s meeting RBN & Associates will be presenting on insurance requirements in 2015. You don’t want to miss this presentation.

Mark your calendars for the next meeting on November 6th at the Tuscano’s in Schiller Park.

CEA Annual Golf Outing August 1, 2014 – Recap

The Chicago Elevator Association (CEA) held their annual golf outing at the Gleneagles Country Club to benefit the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF). The event had a great day for the outing with plenty of sunshine for the golfers. All of the attendees were winners at this year’s charity event. A delicious dinner was provided to the attendees following the outing. The world class raffle with the industries finest prizes kept all the attendees in smiles.

The event had a 50/50 drawing for the EESF. The CEA would like to Thank Brad Hunt of the Peelle Company, Ken Grohowski of CE Electronics, and the girls from RelaDyne for helping with the collection of $1,840.00 dollars for the drawing. Half went to the winner and the other half to the EESF.

This years EESF charity event was a huge success. The CEA Annual Golf Outing helped the EESF by raising $2000.00 dollars to further their mission.

The CEA would also like to thank our golf outing Committee. Glenn Duncan, Tom Przybyla, from Parts Specialists, Inc., and Matt Dennett from RBN & Associates.

The golf outing was only successful due to the support of the sponsors. We wish to say Thank You.

Thank You For Supporting the 2014 Chicago Cruise

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

What a great time we had despite colder temperatures and a fog bank that lifted just in time to enjoy the dinner cruise on Lake Michigan this past Wednesday. With close to 150 elevator industry members on board this event was a huge success. The Spirit of Chicago provide a nice upgrade from boat we’ve been holding this event on in the past and the food was excellent. On behalf of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation; Ed, Corn and myself can’t say it enough, thank you for helping make this event a success once again. - Tom S
