2008 – Chicago Cruise Report
Thanks to the Chicago Elevator Association for their assistance with making the 2008 EESF Chicago Cruise the success that it was.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Contact: Ashley Rains Director of Public Relations Ashley@EESF.org (251) 479-21992nd Annual Chicago Cruise Combines Fun and Fundraising
October 16, 2008 – CHICAGO – The second annual Chicago Cruise sailed Lake Michigan on June 25, 2008 with 105 attendees aboard the Summer of George, all to benefit the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF). The event raised more than $17,000 to further EESF’s mission to educate the public on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators and moving walks through informational programs.
EESF Chairman, Kevin Moylan, assigned a committee of Chicago elevator industry supporters to help orchestrate the event. Committee members include Ed Chmielewski, Anderson Elevator Company (chairman); Tom Sybert, C. J. Anderson & Company and Cornelius Walls, Formula Systems North America. Chairman Chmielewski said “The industry support was overwhelming, and I would like to thank everyone who supported this great cause. A lot of 2nd graders will experience the program because of your generous donations. As everyone knows, it is about the children.”

EESF’s mission is to educate the public on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators and moving walks through informational programs. This year, more than 600,000 second graders will receive the Safe-T Rider program in schools across North America, free of charge. The $17,000 raised at this event equates to purchasing materials for 68,000 second graders. EESF relies on the support of this and other events to reach its goals.
Attendees enjoyed the view of Chicago’s skyline as the sun set on Lake Michigan. The Summer of George provides two decks – the bottom deck allowed guests to partake in the buffet and visit the bar, while the top deck was outfitted with a disc jockey for dancing and entertainment. The cruise concluded with fireworks, a pleasant ending to an evening of camaraderie and fellowship.
The success of this event, in large part, is due to the support of the Chicago Cruise Sponsors. Those include:
Platinum Sponsors (Bar) Adams Elevator Equipment C. J. Anderson & Company Formula Systems North America Schumacher Elevator Company Silver Sponsors (DJ) Draka Elevator Products The Fixture Company Vertitron Midwest, Inc. & Minnesota Elevator, Inc. Ray McCann of the IUEC Local 2 (Chicago) won a ticket to the event at a CEA meeting when President Gary Schreiber drew his name. EESF appreciates this help and the effort of the CEA for this event.
The Chicago Cruise Committee has met and decided to host another event in 2009. Next year’s event date is being decided upon and will be announced soon.
